The Hallstatt Salt Mine & Skywalk
will reopen on 1st of September 2026.
Dear visitors, the wait is over. After a year of construction work on the Salzberg cable car, we are pleased to inform you that the Salt Mine — the oldest salt mine in the world — and the Skywalk above Hallstatt will reopen on 1 September 2026. For those who cannot wait that long, the Hallstatt Salt Mine still offers a daily shuttle bus to the salt mine in Altaussee. You can find more information about this in the article below. See you in the Salzkammergut!

Current traffic:
Partial closure of the Salzkammergut Railway from 11/07/2026 to 02/08/2026.
Dear rail passengers,
Please note that the Salzkammergutbahn between the stations Attnang-Puchheim and Bad Ischl will be closed from 11 July to 2 August 2026 due to construction work. A rail replacement bus service will operate between the two stations during this period. This means changing from train to bus or from bus to train. The buses will be waiting outside the respective stations. Staff from the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) will be on hand to assist you. Please expect delays. Trains run on time between the stations "Bad Ischl" and "Steinach Irdning". This closure does not affect ferry traffic on Lake Hallstatt. The ferry runs between the train station and Hallstatt according to the timetable.
If you have any questions, please contact ÖBB. Thank you for your understanding. Your editorial team.
